SPOKANE, Wash. — If you drove on Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley on Monday, you might have seen some delays in the area.
The City of Spokane Valley said the Sprague Avenue Stormwater and Multi-Modal Improvement Project construction began on Monday. Construction is happening on westbound Sprague Avenue between North University Road and North Herald Road.
The City of Spokane Valley said the project will help increase public safety, protect drinking water and give options and safety for how people choose to travel. This includes connecting Balfour Park and the Spokane Valley Library with City Hall and the Appleway Trail.
Other project elements include the following, according to the City of Spokane Valley.
- Stormwater facilities within the existing right-of-way
- Traffic signal improvements
- Pedestrian mid-block signalized crosswalk
- High-performance transit bus stop
- Improved delineated bike lane
- Reduce three blocks of Sprague Avenue from five lanes to three, extending the existing three lanes east of North University Road west a couple of blocks to North Herald Road.
The City said Sprague will be reduced to two lanes, and drivers can expect to see reduced speeds and traffic delays in the area. The City also said side streets and intersections will generally stay open through construction. Business access will stay open in the area.
The City says most construction will happen between Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. with minimal night and weekend work.
The City expects the project to be done by the fall.
