SPOKANE, Wash. — As the Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team opens the new season, it does so with one the biggest roster shake-ups in the Mark Few era.
The Zags enter the 2023-24 season ranked No. 11 in the AP Top 25 poll, but look much different than the squad that made it to the Elite 8 last season. Gone are both Drew Timme and Julian Strawther, along with five other members of last year's squad.
Gonzaga will lean on returning players like forward Anton Watson and guard Nolan Hickman, as well as transfers Ryan Nembhard and Graham Ike. The team will be without transfer guard Steele Venters, who is expected to miss the season with a knee injury.
Gonzaga's first test of the season comes against the Yale Bulldogs. Yale won the Ivy League regular season championship last season and has made four NCAA tournament appearances since 2016.

Bulldogs vs Bulldogs
Gonzaga has won 17 straight regular-season openers and will look to continue their streak against Yale on Friday night.
The Zags won their only preseason game, an exhibition against Lewis-Clark State, 96-58. Gonzaga's new big men led the way as Wyoming transfer Graham Ike led all scorers with 24 points and redshirt freshman forward Braden Huff chipped in 21 points off the bench.
"Everyone feeds off of each other really well. Everyone is super unselfish and we don't care about individual stats or anything like that and the main goal is winning. I think we established that from day one," Huff said after the game.
Yale already has one win this season, after cruising to victory, 102-53, over Vassar on Monday.
