SPOKANE, Wash. — Think back to that first day of school when you were really nervous. Oftentimes, you were likely loaded down with a new backpack, lots of supplies and your best back-to-school outfit. The reality now is that many families just can't financially support the back-to-school costs which can be in the hundreds of dollars. So, KREM Cares and our partners at Communities in Schools, Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort and Office Depot are working to give the kids what they need to succeed at school this year.
We have talked to many students who go to school hungry and others who simply don't have the basics like toothbrushes, socks and hygiene products.
Collectively, we can do something about it. Communities in Schools Spokane serves over 20 local schools and works with community centers throughout the region to reach the kids most financially challenged. They can get our donations directly to the kids who need them the most. They can also work with their site coordinators and local teachers to have a real impact on a students daily life.
Schools in our region often have over 40% of the student population on free and reduced lunches. Families are struggling and here's a chance to help out. KREM Cares Tools 2 Schools is a long-time partner in the fight to make the first day back to school—the best one ever!
