SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — An upward climb in temperatures along with abundant sunshine has been welcomed with open arms for many in the Inland Northwest who had previously asked, "When will winter finally end?"
A high pressure system arrived early this week that led to decreasing clouds and a climb in temperatures after a cold start to April. For the first five days of the month, afternoon high temperatures only rose to the mid 40s but this week, we've seen an abundance of upper 60s and even forecast highs in the 70s for this Friday.
So when does it all come to an end? Well, soon, but warm temperatures will not be gone for long.
Thursday afternoon brought plenty of sunshine and warmth. Afternoon high temperatures hit the warmest point they have all year. Before Wednesday, the warmest day in Spokane was Feb. 28 with a high of 60.
The best part is: the warmth does not end there.
Take a look at some of your forecast highs for Friday, April 10:
- Spokane: 71
- Moses Lake: 75
- Lewiston: 72
- Omak: 70
- Richland: 77
Friday night into Saturday, a cold front moves in and ruins the momentum. We'll see increasing clouds, wind, and a chance for showers. By Saturday, high temperatures plummet to the upper 40s and low 50s.
This drop will lead to some very cold Easter temperatures with morning lows in the upper 20s and afternoon highs in the upper 40s. No need to worry though, a rebound is in sight.
Early next week shows a gradual upward climb with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s by the middle of next week. The only chance for precipitation will come as the cold front sets in on Saturday but looks to come as hit-or-miss rain showers and some higher elevation snow.
By next week, those skies clear up again with dries skies continuing next week.
With all the spring-like weather, we're asking for your photos of sunshine and warmth! You can take them from a window while staying at home, or enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors while practicing safe social distancing.
