Westbound Thor/Freya I-90 exit reopening, eastbound exit closed

Here is what you need to know before you hit the road on Friday.

SPOKANE, Wash. — If you are planning on using the eastbound Thor/Freya I-90 exit, you will need to make some changes to your commute.

The City of Spokane says while the I-90 westbound Thor/Freya I-90 exit reopened Friday, June 21, crews closed the eastbound exit on Friday morning.

The city is closing the eastbound exit to work on the intersections at Thor Street and 3rd Avenue and Freya Street and 3rd Avenue. The city says some improvements include rebuilding the intersections with concrete, replacing curb and stormwater facilities, ADA upgrades and water and sewer replacements.

The City says this work is similar to what was done on westbound 2nd Avenue at Thor and Freya.

Here is what the City says you can expect when it comes to changes to your commute:

  • Westbound I-90 Exit 283B Thor/Freya off-ramp will open Friday morning, June 21
  • Eastbound I-90 Exit 283B will close starting at 6 a.m., Friday, June 21
  • Eastbound drivers have three rerouting options. Use Exit 283A at Altamont St., Exit 285 at Sprague, or Exit 286 at Broadway Ave.
  • Eastbound 3rd Ave. will be closed between Ray St. and Thor St. starting at 6 a.m.
  • Thor St. will be reduced to one lane at 3rd Ave.
  • Northbound lanes on Freya St. will be open
  • Detours are expected to be in place for approximately 10 weeks or until September.
  • Traffic fines are double in work zones.

The work being done is part of Phase 2 of the Thor-Freya corridor project.
