COLVILLE, Wash. — Sherman pass is located at 5,575 feet, traversing the Colville National Forest. Due to its high elevation, it was hit particularly hard by the weekend snowfall in Eastern Washington.
The Washington State Department of Transportation East announced on Twitter that lane closures will occur on Monday to clear out fallen trees. As many as 150 trees fell due to the wind and 14 inches of snow that fell on the highway.
Many commuters are having to deal with road obstructions early this week on the pass earlier than expected. WSDOT has been getting help from Spokane crews to help clear the roads of snow and ice to ensure safe driving conditions.
WSDOT is urging commuters to drive carefully as well as spend the necessary time to scrape ice off of their vehicles to improve visibility.
