Power restored to most Avista customers after weekend snowfall

Thousands of Avista customers were without power over the weekend during a surprise September snowstorm in the Inland Northwest.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Power has been restored to most Avista customers on Monday after a surprise September snowstorm knocked out power to thousands of Inland Northwest residents.

Avista is still reporting about 40 outages affecting customers in the Stevens County area on Monday morning. 

 Over 700 Avista customers were without power on Sunday morning as cold temperatures and snow swept through eastern Washington and North Idaho. Most of the outages were concentrated in Whitman, Spokane, Stevens and Ferry counties in Washington, with some North Idaho customers also experiencing outages.

Over 1,500 people experienced Avista outages on Saturday morning as wind speeds reached over 40 mph in parts of eastern Washington and North Idaho.
