SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Velocity FC will welcome a new goalkeeper to the team for the rest of the 2024 soccer season.
The league announced Tuesday that Brooks Thompson will fill the goalkeeper position pending league and federation approval. The 21-year-old previously played for the USL Championship League’s Hartford Athletic and is on loan for the rest of the season to Velocity FC.
Thompson will fill the spot left by former Velocity FC goalkeeper Peter Swinkels.
“We are excited to be adding Brooks to the roster! He brings valuable experiences after winning the USL League One Championship last year,” Spokane Velocity FC head coach Leigh Veidman said. “He understands what it takes to bring success to a club on and off the pitch and this is only going to help make us better as a team.”
Thompson played with Sporting Kansas City of MLS and professionally debuted in 2017 with the Swope Park Rangers (now Sporting Kansas City II). Thompson played with Kansas throughout the 2021 season, then later signed with the Philadelphia Union II of MLS Next Pro ahead of the 2022 campaign.
He later moved to North Carolina FC for the 2023 season. Thompson made 54 saves, started in 17 matches and logged 1.27 goals-against-average, making him the fourth-best in USL League One.
