WSU welcomes back beloved Coug mural with new design for football season

The new design will feature an image of a cougar with the words, “Cougar Country Loud and Proud.” It is expected to be finished by September 7.

PULLMAN, Wash. — The large mural welcoming Cougs back to Pullman!

The new design will feature an image of a cougar with the words, “Cougar Country Loud and Proud.” The mural is scheduled to be finished in time for the second WSU home football game against Texas Tech on September 7.

“We couldn’t let this celebration of Cougar pride fade away knowing how many people love it,” said Gary Swindler, WSECU President and CEO and a WSU alumnus.

Earthwork artist Stan Herd was tapped to continue the WSU Coug Mural Field. The field is the final landmark just minutes before the city of Pullman rises among the wheat fields.

“This crop mural has become one of the favorite signs of fall on the Palouse,” said WSU Pullman Chancellor Dave Cillay.

The crop art celebrating WSU Pullman should be visible for approximately 8-10 weeks after completion before seasonal changes impact its clarity.
