SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane-based Brett Sports announced Thursday it's selling half its current roster of teams. The company owns the Spokane Chiefs and Indians and is expected to finalize a sale of the Tri-Cities Dust Devils and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a couple of weeks.
However, any fears of a shake-up among Spokane's sports teams were quickly put to rest by CEO Andy Billig.
“These are the first teams our ownership had and they will be the last teams [we have]. Spokane is Brett Sports," Billig said.
The company is selling two of its baseball teams to Diamond Baseball Holdings; Billig says it was just the right moment for the sale as DBH looks to buy up teams across the country. Though when it comes to the Chiefs and Indians, he says they're committed long-term.
“That’s one of the things that’s positive about this sale, it’ll allow our company to focus even more on the Spokane teams and Spokane community," he said.
Spokane Arena just saw some updates to seating and vendor spaces.
Through Brett Sports' partnership with sponsor Avista, Spokane County and the City of Spokane Valley, 2025's Indians opener will greet baseball fans with the completion of a $22 million renovation.
"We were able to find the resources to make that a modern stadium now," Billig said. "But that’s what’s so neat about it is it’s modern in its amenities but sort of historic in its feel.”
It appears Spokane's decades of dedication to its hometown teams is staying right where it belongs.
