Gonzaga star Yvonne Ejim earns spot on Canada's women's basketball Olympic roster

"I am so incredibly happy and overjoyed at the fact that I get to represent my country at the Olympic level and that I get to compete at that stage," Ejim said.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's basketball star Yvonne Ejim has earned a spot on Canada's women's basketball roster for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

"I am so incredibly happy and overjoyed at the fact that I get to represent my country at the Olympic level and that I get to compete at that stage," Ejim said.

The Canadian women's basketball team successfully qualified for their fourth consecutive Olympic Games by finishing third in the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament in February.

Ejim helped lead the Zags to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament after having her best season in a Bulldogs uniform in the 2023-24, averaging a career-high 20.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, all while shooting an impressive 63% from the field. Ejim also earned the 2024 Becky Hammon Player of the Year award, and WCC Player of the Year.

"It was always a dream of mine ever since I started Canada Basketball and the fact that now I am living it is beyond what I imagined. I am also so proud of myself for continuing to work until this point, but I think the best thing was all the people that supported me up until this point, including my family, all the teammates I've had, and coaches that I've been coached under," Ejim said.

The women's basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics will take place on July 27 through August 11. Canada's first game of the tournament will be on July 29 (8:15 a.m. PT) against France.
