Top five moments from the 2019-2020 Gonzaga men's basketball season

The Zags exceeded expectations and were once again one of the top teams in the country.

SPOKANE, Wash. — March 15 was supposed to be Selection Sunday.

We were going to find out Gonzaga men's basketball's road to a potential national championship, but we won't have an NCAA Tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the Zags season, where they exceeded expectations and was once again one of the top teams in the country.

Here are our top five moments.

NO. 5: UNC COMES TO THE KENNEL

This game did not have have the build up as desired as the North Carolina Tar Heels came in to this contest unranked and without their best player Cole Anthony.

Nonetheless, the students showed up, the fans were excited and one of the most notable brands in college basketball still came to play in the McCarthey Athletic Center.

It was just one of many examples of how far this program has come over the past two decades, and what's yet to come.

NO. 4: GONZAGA HANDS SMC WORST HOME LOSS SINCE 2001

The Zags rolled to a 30 point win.

They were absolutely automatic shooting the ball n the first half. It was their best offensive half of the season by far as they just torched the net.

Zags shot 74 percent in the first half and were up by 25 at the break.

They looked like they had something to prove that night and showed how dangerous this team can be.

NO. 3: JOEL AYAYI GAME-WINNER VS. WASHINGTON

Gonzaga played in-state rival Washington on the road in a non-conference contest.

Joel Ayayi hit a dagger three to put this game away with 25 seconds left. The Zags went on to win 83-76 in a thrilling game.

NO. 2: WCC TOURNAMENT TITLE REDEMPTION

Gonzaga redeemed itself in the West Coast Conference tournament title game.

This season, they beat Saint Mary's after the Gaels upset them in the same game last season.

The team finished off the season with more wins than last year's team and a conference tournament title.

You could say they were less talented, but it was just an encapsulation off what a great reload season this was for the Zags.

NO.1: SENIOR NIGHT

This was a special night for Killian Tillie as he was honored before his final home game.

Former Zag and fan favorite Rui Hachimura made a surprise appearance and had the place going crazy. Team manager Mac Graff who was paralyzed six years ago from the waist down walked under his own power.

Joel Ayayi hit a late three to seal a win over Saint Mary's.

The team then celebrated their eight straight regular season title.
