LAS VEGAS — The No. 2 Gonzaga Bulldogs beat the Saint Mary’s Gaels 84 to 66 to win the West Coast Conference Championship on Tuesday.
Drew Timme and Joel Ayayi were integral to the Bulldogs’ success. KREM’s Brenna Greene said the contest against the Gaels was easily one of Timme's best games of the year so far.
Both Timme and Ayayi scored 17 points during the game. Ayayi was named the 2020 WCC Tournament MVP.
Gonzaga barely led the Gaels at halftime, with a score of 42-41, before exploding in the second half.
Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts were the leading scorers for Saint Mary’s during the first half. Ford had 20 points at the half and Fitts had 14.
During the second half, they scored a combined five points.
Fans will know who the Zags will play in the first game of the NCAA Tournament at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Selection Sunday Show begins at 3 p.m. on KREM 2.
