Gonzaga Bulldogs, WSU Cougars facing each other twice in West Coast Conference play

The rivalry between the Zags and the Cougs reignites on the basketball court starting this season.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Baseball season is underway and football season is right around the corner, but that doesn't mean we can't get excited for the college basketball season here in Hooptown USA.

The West Coast Conference (WCC) released the matchups for this year's men's basketball seasons.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs, who came second in the WCC standings to the Saint Mary's Gaels, will face the Gaels, USF Dons, Santa Clara Broncos, LMU Lions, Pepperdine Waves and Portland Pilots twice this season, once at home and once on the road.

Two new schools the Zags will have on their schedule are the Washington State Cougars and the Oregon State Beavers, who are joining the WCC following the collapse of the PAC-12 conference that forced the Cougs and the Beavers to move conferences. The Zags will also face both the Cougs and Beavers at home and on the road.

The Zags are only playing the USD Toreros and Pacific Tigers once, where the Zags will host USD and travel to Stockton, California, to play the Tigers.

For WSU, they will only play their now fellow PAC-2 OSU once when they travel to Corvallis to play Oregon State. WSU will host LMU in the only time the two teams will match up this upcoming season.

Outside of those two games, WSU will play the remaining teams in the conference (Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, USF, USD, Pacific, Santa Clara, Pepperdine and Portland) twice; once at home and once on the road.

The last time Gonzaga and WSU faced each other was in Pullman was in 2015, when the Zags beat the Cougars 69-60. WSU also played Santa Clara last season, where they fell to the Broncos 69-61.

Dates and times have not been released yet for the games.
