SPOKANE, Wash. — Underhill Park in Spokane's East Central neighborhood is reopened after nearly 3 months of construction.
The park closed in mid-August for court construction and now boasts brand-new basketball and pickleball courts and an overall facelift including features like:
- New sidewalks
- ADA ramps at the intersection of East Hartson Avenue and South Fiske Street
- Enhanced lighting
- Bike racks
- Benches
The renovations will support the local community's access to outdoor recreation, including an annual summer basketball camp.
The total budget for the court renovation is $628,000. The project is funded by City of Spokane Parks & Recreation and through a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office.
Dick’s Sporting Goods, No-Li Brewhouse and the Spokane Hoopfest Association are also supporting the renovation and Cameron Reilly, LLC is the contractor.
“Investing in our neighborhood parks – amenities like playgrounds, restrooms, and sport courts – is our big focus right now, and we’re see that through recent projects like Liberty Park, Wildhorse Park, and Corbin Park," said Garrett Jones, the interim city administrator in August. "These renovations are often the result of matching grants and community supporters, and we are grateful for their collaboration to deliver on these community priorities.”
A celebration for the renovations is planned for the spring of 2025 and permanent surfacing for the new pickleball courts will be installed.
