OTIS ORCHARDS-EAST FARMS, Wash. — The man who reportedly drowned in the Spokane River on Friday, July 19, has been identified.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner said the cause and manner of 18-year-old Devonte Bragg's death are still pending.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded to a reported drowning in the Spokane River near North Starr Road and East River Road.
SCSO said people pulled Bragg out of the water and started performing CPR before first responders took over. SCSO said Bragg was later pronounced dead at the scene.
SCSO also said witnesses told deputies the man was swimming with a group of when he was seen floating face down minutes later.
SCSO said Bragg was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
The sheriff's office also wants to remind you to be safe when you are out on the water.
