Teen dies following reported drowning in Spokane River

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said the cause and manner of the death will be released at a later date.

OTIS ORCHARDS-EAST FARMS, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) says an 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of a possible drowning in the Spokane River Friday afternoon.

According to preliminary information from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, the sheriff's office received reports from multiple people of a possible drowning in the Spokane River near North Starr Road and East River Road at around 1:45 p.m. on Friday.

SCSO said on Saturday, July 20 that witnesses pulled the man from the river and attempted to perform CPR after they noticed him floating face-down in the water.

When they arrived, first responders took over the efforts to save the man's life but were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office is still investigating this incident. SCSO said the cause and manner of the man's death will be released at a later time.

The sheriff's office also wants to remind you to be safe when you are out on the water, especially as temperatures rise this weekend.
