Spokane woman Loc Nguyen died from drowning, medical examiner says

Nguyen was reported missing in December and her body was found in the river on Jan. 30.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Medical Examiner determined Thursday that 24-year-old Loc Nguyen, who was found in the Spokane River back in January, died from drowning.

The medical examiner said the manner of her death is still undetermined.

Nguyen was reported missing in December and her body was found in the river on Jan. 30. Police said she contacted her family and roommate on the evening of Dec. 3 after she finished work at Total Wines & More in north Spokane.

Nguyen’s phone sent a text to family members that day that read, “I go to my friend’s house I will be home late tonight.” This was the last contact Nguyen had with known friends or relatives, according to court documents.

Family members reported Nguyen as a missing person on Dec. 5, according to court documents. On that day, a man found a cellphone lying on the rocks in the Spokane River just off South Mirabeau Parkway. This area is near the Centennial Trail.

Detectives also found Nguyen’s silver 2009 Volkswagon Tiguan near the Mirabeau Park Trailhead that same day.

Police have not yet named a suspect in the case.
