SPOKANE, Wash. — The city of Spokane needs to replace all 800 of its parking meters because they will not operate beyond 2020.
The city is asking the public to give input on six potential options.
Three of the parking meters on display cost between $500 and $750 per unit. They cover one or two parking spaces.
As for the kiosks, they can run anywhere between $5,000 to $7,000 a unit. They cover about 10 parking spaces each.
Most of these options are solar powered and can be compatible with mobile apps.
Replacing these meters is not only necessary, but it's also a response to the city's Downtown parking study.
"One of the recommendations was that we needed to upgrade--or change out our technology," Kirstin Davis, Communications Manager, Neighborhood & Business Services said. "The over 800 parking meters we have out there right now are technologically obsolete.
