SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane has just announced to all residents to start putting out their garbage, recycling and yard waste carts at the curb before 6 a.m. so that Residential Solid Waste Services (RSWS) can get an early start due to changing weather conditions such as extreme heat.
Residential collection of recyclables, garbage and yard waste will be collected on the same day. Please advise that your driver might arrive earlier or later than what you are used to on any given week.
Here are some tips to make sure the weekly collection goes by smoothly:
- Make sure all waste carts are placed on your curb by 6 a.m. to ensure they will get picked up once the trucks arrive.
- Place your green cart at least 3 feet away from your recycling and garbage carts, as well as away from vehicles or other obstacles. Don't place it under a basketball hoop or an eave, and make sure to put it within 2 feet of the curb.
- Make sure your cart lids can open towards the street or alley.
- There is a 200-pound limit on the carts, so make sure not to overload them.
- Don't have things overflowing in the carts. Anything that is sticking out of the carts, and that is no longer than 4 feet, should be placed next to the cart. The city will pick it up for an extra fee.
If your carts have been missed or partially emptied, you can call 311, or for outside city limits, you can call (509) 755-2489.
If you are unable to place your carts to the curb due to a medical condition, or disability, the city offers a free "pack out" service. To use this service, you need to have a physician fill out a medical pack out assistance request form. If you wish to have one emailed, faxed, or mailed to your home, you can call 311, or for outside city limits, you can call (509) 755-2489.

If you are going on vacation and want to put your trash pick-up on hold, please notify RSWS in advance.
