SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokanimal's Dorothy Clark Animal Clinic has reopened to the public with some new changes coming soon.
More than a year ago, Spokanimal's Dorothy Clark Animal Clinic closed its doors due to financial hardship. The clinic offers low-cost pet care, including spay and neuter services, to help families in need.
Some changes to the clinic are now in place. On Tuesday and Thursday, the clinic is open to the public for spays and neuters as well as vaccinations during their walk-in clinic hours from 2 to 4 p.m.
Spokanimal’s Executive Director Dori Peck said staff members are happy to provide this service again, especially in the middle of kitten season.
"We just needed to stop, regroup and figure out what our mission [was] and what we really wanted to focus on, and then we were able to re-open and offer our services again," Peck said. "With all of us we are working toward the same goal, to stop the overpopulation so that our shelters are not overcrowded.”
By mid-summer, Spokanimal is hoping to have a separate building dedicated to an on-site kitten nursery so staff can care for and raise kittens before the adopting them out to new owners.
Spokanimal would like any help they can get from the public. Those interested in contributing can donate any time on Spokanimal’s website.
Another way staff said you can help with the overpopulation problem is bringing your pets in to have them spayed or neutered.
