KCSO concludes Spirit Lake police shooting investigation, releases no new information

KCSO said its investigation into a deadly Spirit Lake police shooting is complete, but did not release any information that was not already known to the public.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Following a deadly police shooting that took place in Spirit Lake in early November, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) announced Monday the investigation into the incident is done.

However, no new information was shared.

The Spirit Lake Police Department (SLPD) responded to an apparent mental health crisis around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at an apartment in Spirit Lake. After arriving, police encountered an elderly woman, later identified as S.A. Floyd, and at some point, an officer fired their weapon before exiting the apartment.

KCSO did not specify what caused the Spirit Lake police officer to fire their weapon.

After the shooting, KCSO held a press conference to answer Spirit Lakes residents' questions but still remained tight-lipped about the details of the case.

"I've never seen a press release this tight-lipped," Resident Debbie Novak said. "It just was a total waste of time for everybody to come out."

KCSO turned over 1300 photos, 170 pieces of evidence and video footage to the Kootenai County Prosecutor, who will now review the material and decide if any further action needs to be taken.
