A speakeasy bar is now open in downtown Spokane. It's called "Scofflaws Book Club."
We got a tour around before the grand opening.
From the outside, it may look like just any other book store. But if you find the right book, you'll take a step back in time at one of Spokane's first speakeasies.
Scofflaws Book Club is owner Bryan Harkey's dream come to life.
"I kind of half expected like a flimsy little book shelf, but I couldn't be more happy," Harkey said. "This exceeded my expectation."
On their custom menu, you'll find a list of 130 different whiskeys. There's also a variety of the traditional prohibition themed cocktails, along with drinks with low alcohol content.
"The page with the Tales of Yore, is cocktails like a Manhattan or Vesper."
The speakeasy had a few soft openings last week and it's now open to all. Harkey said his Bloody Verde cocktail is a big hit.
"We do all that from scratch," Harkey said. "The juicing of the tomatillos, green peppers, a little bit of everything."
Harkey went through every detail of the bar making sure customers not only felt like they were back in the 30s, but comfortable as well.
"It's very important to be comfortable sitting at a bar," Harkey said. "I hate sitting on a wood or hard bar stool for a couple hours. And in these booths, you can kind of sit down, put your arm up next to you. Or if you're by yourself, kick your feet up. This is how I spend a lot of my day after making my Verde mix."
Looking around the room, you'll even find a few nods to Ernest Hemingway, like a portrait of the author filling a section of the wall.
"Sit in one of these comfortable booths, have a Hemingway Daiquiri, with Ernest looking over you," Harkey said.
And the book used to enter the speakeasy? Ernest Hemingway's, "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
A grand opening date has not yet been announced, but Harkey said future cool cats should keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
