Gas station and concert venue? These Spokane gems are more than meets the eye

KREM Photojournalist Dave Somers visits Spokane restaurants that offer more than just food during our new series Restaurant and a 'blank.'

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane is full of hidden gems, from its great outdoor recreation to amazing restaurants.

Some restaurants are more than meets the eye once you're inside their doors, and KREM Photojournalist Dave Somers has set out to explore some of these amazing finds around Spokane.

KREM's new series, called Restaurant and a 'blank', showcases different businesses around town that may look like just a place to grab a bite to eat or some groceries, but offer way more than originally thought.

Rocket Market - 726 East 43rd Ave., Spokane

Rocket Market on Spokane's South Hill may look like a gas station at first glance, but really offers something for everyone.

While you can certainly gas up your car, truck or SUV, Rocket Market also offers a wine club, operates as a small concert venue, offers locally grown food, and much, much more.

Pepe Caldo Pizza - 1116 West Ironwood Drive, Coeur d'Alene

Pepe Caldo Pizza offers homemade pizzas in a place that might make you feel like you're back home. But the pizzeria also operates as a skate shop.

That's right, after grabbing a couple slices of pizza, you can walk over and grab any skateboard decks, bearings, trucks, griptape or apparel you need before you go skate your favorite spot in Coeur d'Alene.

Pathfinder Cafe - 3026 South Grand Blvd., Spokane

A unique take on the cafe concept, Pathfinder Cafe offers beers, baked goods, bar food and, of course, coffee. But its not just the menu that make Pathfinder stand apart.

The cafe also serves as a bicycle shop, and it's easy to tell once you step inside. With bicycle themed decorations prevalent throughout, this one-of-a-kind spot is a must-see.

High Country Orchard in Green Bluff has it all. Fresh fruits and vegetables, a wedding venue, home decor, food, you name it.

Sandpoint Sports and Skal Tap Room - 476930 Highway 95 Ponderay, ID

This restaurant includes a tap room and a bike and ski shop! 

It's a Scandinavian style tap room with six regional beers on tap. Svein has owned Sandpoint Sports for 15 years.

North Idaho College's Emery's Restaurant and Deli - 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene

This isn't just a restaurant, its also a classroom! This restaurant is fully staffed by students in the North Idaho College culinary arts program.

The restaurant is on the second floor of the Hedlund Building in Coeur d'Alene and is open during the fall and spring semesters.

Red Light Garage - 302 5th St. Wallace, Idaho

Red Light Garage is both a restaurant and an antique shop! It's also the office for the Hercules Inn.

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring huckleberry pancakes, espresso, "2 tacos for 4 bucks" and jalapeno burgers.
