SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department is investigating an incident where someone sprayed pepper spray in the baby aisle of a local Walmart on Thursday and as a result, a baby and mother suffered exposure to it.
The incident happened right inside the Shadle Center Walmart. It was supposed to be a quick stop for groceries for Chelsea Grosvenor and her baby, but it ended with pepper spray and panic.
“He was crying for three hours,” Grosvenor said about her son.
Eyes still red, and a slight cough, it seems Troubadour may be okay. Earlier Thursday though, Grosvenor was not so sure.
“I had a few things, just exchange diapers,” she said. “It was supposed to be in and out in 15 minutes.”
Instead, someone sprayed pepper spray near the baby section in the Walmart.
“I started coughing a little bit and really didn’t think anything of it,” she said.
It was not until an employee walked up with a mask to notify customers.
“I tried to put my shirt over his face, but the shirt I’m wearing didn’t really work for that,” Grosvenor said.
“I just covered his face with my hand and immediately left the store.”
KREM 2 News was unable to secure surveillance video but Walmart said in a statement they are working with police. They continued and said there is nothing more important than the safety of their customers and associates.
Grosvenor said she plans to press charges – regardless of whether or not it was a prank.
