SPOKANE, Wash. — The rain and snow mixture is ending across the area on Friday. Spokane will be dry for the rest of the day while Coeur d'Alene will get to the dry weather around noon, followed by Pullman at about 3 p.m.
Snowfall reports are impressive in northern Spokane counties, and across northeast Washington and far North Idaho. More than 7 inches of snow reportedly fell in Springdale. The Spokane International Airport received one inch of snow, which happened at the beginning of the event on Thursday evening, but the precipitation has been mostly rain since.
A Winter Weather Advisory that was in place stretched from the Cascades through Northeastern Washington to North Idaho, down into the Columbia Basin. Temperatures hovering right around freezing means snow totals varied greatly during the event. Higher elevations and areas farther north will saw greater accumulation through Friday morning.
An area from Ritzville to Spokane and down toward St. Maries saw temperatures hovering close enough to the freezing mark that led to rain mixing in with snow at times. Spokane was expecting one to three inches of snow from this storm.
The snow from the incoming storm likely melts away in low elevations in the days following the storm. Temperatures climbing back above freezing and ground that is still rather warm will melt away a lot of what falls. In high elevations, it will take a lot more to melt the snow. We are quickly approaching the time of year we start building the snowpack that takes us into next summer.
