Wednesday marks the final 8 p.m. sunset until 2025

We'll have to wait 259 days for the next sunset after 8 p.m.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Now that the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, has passed, the days have been getting progressively shorter. Since the start of August, we have lost between two and three minutes of daylight per day.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday night will be the last time in 2024 when the sunset will be 8 p.m. or later. It will stay that way until April 30, 2025. That is 259 days from now.

The announcement from the National Weather Service on X has gotten some fun responses from locals who aren't quite ready to give up the long summer days.

Like this response from the official City of Spokane account on X:

The sunset hour will stay between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. until September 25 when the sun is expected to set at 6:59 p.m. The days will continue to progressively get shorter until the shortest day of the year December 21, 2025, the Winter solstice.
