SPOKANE, Wash. — Spring is right around the corner! The long stretch of colder than average weather will be no more by next weekend and possibly St. Patrick's Day weekend.
Since February 3rd, every single day in Spokane has been below average temperature-wise. That's 38 consecutive days through March 12th. But now we finally see a clear upward temperature trend for the rest of this week. Highs will be around 40 degrees for some Wednesday, and surely by Thursday for nearly everyone in the Inland Northwest. That'll also be the first time Spokane has hit 40 degrees since February 2nd.
This whole sale change in temperatures impacts the either western third of the U.S. The Climate Prediction Center's 6-10 day outlook (March 18-22) has Spokane clearly ready to be above average in the temperature department, and that mean 50s are a sure bet for next week!
And just in time. The first day of Spring is March 20th. Spokane's average high temp is 50 degrees, 57 degrees in Moses Lake, and 56 degrees in Lewiston. Spokane hasn't been that warm since November 4th, 2018 (57° that day).
Usually, we're good to squeeze out at least one 50° day in January or February most years, but the cold stretch has prevented that entirely. The last time we went this last into the year before our first 50° day was in 2009 when it took until March 20th.
