Spokane to set record for hottest August

Temperatures to hit upper 90s and close to record highs to cap off a record-setting August

SPOKANE, Wash. — More than half of all the days in August 2022 were in the 90s. And the final days of this month will be no exception. Temperatures in Spokane are again forecast to hit the upper 90s on the final day of the month.

Through August 28, 17 of the 28 days had high temperatures above 90 degrees. The hottest being a 100° day on August 18.

This is incredible considering summers in Spokane typically reach 90 degrees 19 days on average... for the whole year, let alone in a single month. And the constant day-after-day heat is going to add up to a record-setting August.

The record for the warmest August in Spokane is 75.2 degrees, set in 1915. As of the 28th day of the month, The average temperature this August was 76.0 degrees. And the final three days are predicted to be about 10-15 degrees above average, so that final number will likely climb.

In total, Spokane hit 100 degrees once, was in the 90s 16 times, 80s nine times, and 70s on two days. The hottest day was 100° on August 18 with a low of 73° the following morning. The coolest day was August 28, when the high was 76° and the low was 48°.

While the month as a whole, in 2022, will be the hottest August on record, Spokane did not set a single daily high-temperature record. The closest was on Aug. 18, just one-degree shy (101°).
