SPOKANE, Wash. — December is starting off with snow for Spokane!
A Winter Weather Advisory goes from 4am Friday to 4pm Saturday. That's a 36 hour window where a couple inches of accumulating snow will fall for most of the Inland Northwest. Only Moses Lake, Lewiston, and Omak are not under the advisory where an inch or less snow is expected. Meanwhile Shoshone County, Idaho is under a Winter Storm Warning, along with the Cascades, where far more snow is forecast.
For Spokane and Pullman, about 2-5" of snow will fall in about ½ inch to 1 inch bursts. Coeur d'Alene and North Idaho will see slightly more snow as the Saturday morning batch will be heavier for North Idaho.
Meanwhile, mountains and mountain passes will receive more than a foot of snow, including Lookout Pass. Snoqualmie Pass will get 1-3 feet of snow in total!
This isn't technically our first snowfall of the year. Spokane got 1.1" of snow on October 25th. Then another 0.5" on November 19th. But unlike those two days, this snow will stick around for longer than just a morning since the recent freezing temperatures will make it so the snow sticks right away.
In fact, the flurries today (Thursday) are sticking to the ground with no resistance.
Friday morning commuters should still use caution on the roads since an inch or so of snow will be enough to create some slippery spots.
