With a Winter Storm Warning in place for much of eastern Washington and north Idaho, many school districts are choosing to delay or cancel classes on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The forecast calls for a foot of snow or more for areas near Spokane. The snow is expected to continue into the afternoon, meaning travel may be difficult for both the morning and evening commutes.

We have already heard from several districts about closures or delays, including Spokane Public Schools, Coeur d'Alene School District and Moses Lake School District which are closed today.

Spokane Public Library locations and Spokane County Library District facilities are also closed.

Weather forecast

A major winter storm on Wednesday will bring one of the biggest snow storms of recent years to much of the Inland Northwest. Eastern Washington and North Idaho face the biggest impacts Wednesday following the round of light snow that started the week.

SNOW TOTALS (subject to change)

The Spokane area will be about 6-8" of snow. A corridor to the north, between Deer Park and Chewelah could get upwards of 12" of snow Wednesday and into Thursday. Some places like Newport or Sandpoint might get more than a foot by the time it ends Thursday. Only locations closer to south-central Washington are leaning towards an all-rain or mostly-rain event.

It's worth mentioning that some computer models are extending the high-end totals extremely high. The highest possible in Spokane is 15" (though that's extremely unlikely). But 12" of snow is given about a 10% chance for Spokane. And it's a 30% chance for Sandpoint.

The mountains will easily be measuring snow in feet. The Cascades could see up to 4 feet of snow!
