Winter weather is impacting areas around the Inland Northwest, with the mountains of North Idaho under a Winter Storm Warning until 10 a.m. on Friday.

Locations between Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and Kellogg may get around 1-3 inches of snow. The mountaintops will see between 8-20 inches of snow.

The heaviest snow will fall on Thursday morning and after 6 p.m.

Travel over the mountains could be difficult to impossible due to blowing and drifting snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Spots north of Highway 2 may see 1-3 inches of snow with about 4-8 inches on mountaintops.

The highest snow totals will be the North Idaho mountains.

A Winter Storm Warning is also in effect for Cascades passes until Friday.

Between Thursday morning and Friday morning, another 11 inches of snow could fall at Stevens Pass. Snoqualmie Pass, along with the Mount Baker and Crystal Mountain ski resorts, could get up to 8 inches more.

Spokane and Coeur d'Alene will likely see all rain Wednesday night as temperatures rise from about 32° Wednesday evening to 40° at daybreak on Thursday. If anything, a quick dusting of snow will come first before it changes to rain, and the snow and ice start melting.

The National Weather service measured 2.1 inches of snow at the Spokane Airport on Wednesday morning.

The snow began falling on Tuesday night and continued into early Wednesday morning.

Traffic was snarled across the city as slick roads made for difficult morning commutes.
