Multiple severe heat records to be broken during oppressive weekend heat wave

Records including daily high temps and consecutive 90-degree days are to be broken during this weekend's heat wave.

SPOKANE, Wash. — It has been very hot more often than not this July. And now, this stretch of weather is breaking more records than just daily high temperatures.

As of Friday, Spokane tied the record for most consecutive days at 90 degrees or above at 15 days in a row. That record will be shattered with 90s and 100s in the forecast through the first half of next week.

Forecasted high temperatures are in the 100s on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday! Because of that, NWS Spokane upgraded heat alerts to Excessive Heat Warnings for the hottest three days. Sunday will be the hottest of those days, with Spokane's forecast at 106 degrees. That not only is a record high for the day (record: 103°) but stands just 3 degrees shy of the all-time record high which is 109°. That was set during the historic 2021 heat wave on June 29th, '21. This will be the hottest day since then.

Another record that could fall is total number of 100 degree days in a single year. The record is 6 days, set in both 2015 and 2021. So far this year we hit 100+ degrees three days (July 8-10) and are forecasting three more (July 20-22).

90-degree temperatures are forecasted through July 24th which will make for 20 days in a row at 90 or above before a forecasted day with temperatures in the 80s arrive.
