HAYDEN, Idaho — The freezing rain over the weekend made an impact on the entire Inland Northwest.
That was especially the case in Hayden, where people woke up Sunday morning to find their driveways turned into a sheet of ice.
Brian Harrington says he hasn't had to deal with freezing rain since he moved from Central Washington three years ago.
"We saw quite a bit over there. but not like this," Harrington, who now lives in Hayden said.
He spent all Sunday morning shoveling his driveway: "It's really slippery. And there's a lot of spots that you can't even tell. It doesn't look it."
Already he can't wait for the weather to warm up so he can get back to his normal routine of not wearing too many layers and taking his dog for a walk.
"Walking down the sidewalk and not have to worry about how cold it is and how much gear you have to have on," Harrington said.
It's the same problem further up the road.
"It was like a solid sheet of ice," Michelle Mancuso, who lives in Sandpoint, said.
Mancuso experienced the freezing rain first-hand.
"Last night, I had went out and walked downtown," Mancuso said. "And my coat was like, just an ice crystals."
Andrea Morris also lives in North Idaho and didn't have to go far to brave the slick roads.
"In our neighborhood it's still pretty thick with ice," Morris said.
Idaho State Police say the freezing rain caused several crashes and road closures this weekend throughout North Idaho, including on US-95 Saturday night near Hayden.
As for Harrington, the changing weather means more work
"Last week, I don't think I would have spent this much time out here trying to do this," Harrington said.
By Sunday afternoon, many of the main roads in North Idaho were cleared and treated.
