Excessive Heat Warnings in place this week with temperatures expected to be in the 100s

Record highs are likely to be broken next week while temperatures are above 100 degrees for multiple days in a row.

SPOKANE, Wash. — As of the 4th of July, Spokane had only had a single day at 90 degrees so far this 2024, which was a tame start to the summer season. Well, that has since changed as extreme heat will push temperatures above 100 degrees for the next few days.

Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect through Wednesday, July 10. A Heat Advisory is also in place for much of North Idaho that runs through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay at or above 100 degrees all week! Several days of this heat make the heat wave so much worse overall.

There are already multiple days forecasted to be daily record highs, including Monday (Forecast: 100°, Record: 99°), Tuesday (Forecast: 103°, Record: 100°), and Wednesday (Forecast: 104°, Record: 102°). Forecasting records this far in advance are reminiscent of the June 2021 heat wave, which ultimately set Spokane's all-time record high temperatures of 109°.

Hazard: Extreme Heat, high temperatures between 95-110°.

When: Each afternoon, Saturday (7/6) to Friday (7/12).

Impact: Those outdoors or without access to air conditioning may be susceptible to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Need to Know: Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during the afternoon hours when it's at its hottest, and check on friends, neighbors, and family members to make sure they are staying healthy during the heat wave.
