SPOKANE, Wash. — Great news for trick-or-treaters! A dry and not-too-cold forecast is ahead this Sunday across the Spokane area.
Temperatures will top out around 50 degrees during the day and will fall to the low 40s and upper 30s after sunset. That's about all you can ask for as rain, snow, or bitterly cold temperatures can make for miserable weather walking around with the kids. Of course, a "warm" Halloween would be the most ideal, but that's usually asking for a lot for the final day of October.
The record warmest Halloween was in 1988 when the high temperature was 67 degrees in Spokane. Eight times in the 140-year history has been at 60 degrees or warmer.
On the flip side, the coldest Halloween was in 2002 when the low temperature was 7 degrees. Granted, low temps typically occur around sunrise. Records aren't kept for specific hours of the day, just the days as a whole.
68 of the 140 Halloweens in Spokane had a low temperature of 32 degrees or colder, so about half. So if the weather is above freezing, that's usually fair for trick-or-treat hours across the Inland Northwest.
