SPOKANE, Wash. — If you've had to double-check the calendar to make sure it still says June, you're not alone.
The weather this month in Spokane has been unusually cold, particularly during the day time. On Saturday, June 13, when it rained all day, the afternoon temperature never rose above 51 degrees. If not for an official high temperature of 62 at midnight, it would've easy been a record coldest high temp for the day.
We've been awfully close to several of those records (the coldest high temp record) through this month. So far today, June 15, the high has been 57 which is two degrees above the record coldest high of 55 degrees for this day.
By the way, Spokane's average high temperature of 57 comes between April 14-17.
The average temperature (between both high and low temps) for the first half of the month is 57.8 degrees. If the month were to end today, that would make for the seventh-coldest June ever.
But the warmest days of June are still ahead of us. The last two weeks of June is usually when the summer weather really kicks in. Yes, we've had a taste, but by late June and July, the summer heat will truly be here to stay, so that average should rise significantly before the records are finalized.
And if you're still feeling impatient with the record cold weather, don't worry, the forecasted warm-up is not too far off. The Climate Prediction Center's temperature looking for the first few days of summer, June 21-25, highly favor warmer than average temperatures for Spokane and all of the western states.
The Summer Solstice is on June 20, and Spokane's average high temperature on that day is 75 degrees.
