SPOKANE, Wash. — Are you ready for the cold? Like really prepared? The coldest it's been this season was 18° on November 25th... technically still fall at the time and no colder than 21 since winter began. This weekend it'll be on the order of 25 to 30 degrees colder than that!

An arctic cold front will push through Washington and Idaho from north-to-south on Thursday bringing some moderate snowfall and purely arctic type weather.

It'll be felt immediately on Friday morning with some temps hitting the sub-0° mark. Saturday morning will be the coldest point of the weekend. Spokane is forecast for -5°, Coeur d'Alene -14°, and Bonners Ferry at -25°. And that's before factoring in a wild chill which will be even colder.

Wind chills, which is a calculation of how cold the air feels when you factor in both the temperature and wind speeds, will reach dangerous levels during this time. Frostbite and hypothermia can onset due to prolonged exposure to the elements. At -40°, frostbite can onset in just 10 minutes.

The worst of the cold will be over the Inland Northwest from Friday to Sunday. Lows near or below zero and high temperatures only in the single digits positive.

Additionally, there will be another batch of snow that comes with the arctic cold front. Southeastern Washington and North Idaho are under a Winter Storm Watch as 3-6" of snow will fall... even more for locations near the Silver Valley where 6-12" is where the highest totals are forecasted.

The snow begins Thursday morning all across North Idaho and eastern Washington and that's when the snow will be at its heaviest for most. The Palouse and southeastern Washington will wait until Thursday afternoon for the heaviest snowfall as moisture from the west intersects with the arctic cold front which increases totals in that region of the Inland Northwest.
