Spokane's iconic Red Wagon featured in USA Today list of roadside stops

The wagon, standing at 12 feet high and 27 feet long, is made of 26 tons of steel and is reinforced with concrete. It also holds up to 300 people.

SPOKANE, Wash. — USA Today named Spokane’s iconic Radio Flyer Red Wagon as a detour-worthy stop in Washington state.

“Travelers will be pleased to find the world’s largest radio flyer nestled behind the trees in Riverfront Park in Spokane,” Teresa Ronquillo of USA Today wrote.

The wagon, standing at 12 feet high and 27 feet long, is made of 26 tons of steel and is reinforced with concrete. It was built in 1990 and designed by local artist Ken Spiering.

Fun fact: The wagon can also hold up to 300 people.

The USA Today article features “incongruous statues, historic birthplaces and unique shop-ops” throughout the country, Ronquillo wrote.

Idaho’s stop is the Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot, where you can pose for photos with a large potato sculpture.
