Record holiday passenger volume expected at Spokane International Airport

The airport said this holiday travel season could see upwards of 200,000 airline seats, an 11% increase from last year.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Officials at Spokane International Airport (GEG) said they expect 2023 to be the busiest holiday travel season in its history.

According to officials, this holiday travel season could see upwards of 200,000 airline seats, an 11% increase from last year. Those passengers are scheduled to arrive and depart through the airport's gates between Dec. 19, 2023 and Jan. 2, 2024.

The busiest travel days at the airport are Dec. 22, Dec. 26, Dec. 28 and Dec. 29. In addition, officials said passenger activity is expected to peak each day between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with more than 3,000 passengers expected to arrive, depart and connect through the airport. Other high-volume periods are expected for 5-6 a.m. and 9-11 p.m.

Officials are advising passengers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before boarding to give themselves more time before their flight departs, as the airport will be crowded with long lines. Officials also advised passengers to wrap holiday gifts after arriving to their destination, as wrapped gifts that are packed will prompt inspection from TSA.

Editor's Note: Originally, KREM 2 said  residents could see upwards of 20,000 airline seats this holiday season. That number has been changed to 200,000.
