KELLER, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that the Keller Ferry will remain out of service as crews work to fix an electrical issue.
According to WSDOT, the ferry was removed from service on Wednesday, January 10 because of an electrical issue that caused transmission problems while sailing. In addition, technicians realized that an electrical breaker system in the ferry failed.
The recent arctic air in the region also froze several pipes connected to the ferry's generators. WSDOT said technicians are working to restore power to those generators, which will help provide more insight into the ferry's electrical issues.
WSDOT said residents planning to travel across the Columbia River on State Route 21 should look to an alternate route during the closure via State Route 25, State Route 155 and State Route 174. Drivers should also plan additional time for travel, as the detour may take up to an hour for them to get through.
Drivers can receive updates on the Keller Ferry on the WSDOT Travel Alerts page and on the department's mobile app.
