COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The Idaho Transportation Department is warning drivers to expect 30 minute delays on Thursday, April 4 on U.S. Highway 95. The delays will be caused by ITD inspecting the Spokane River Bridge in Coeur d’Alene.
According to ITD, crews are doing a routine inspection of the bridge. This inspection requires the use of an under bridge inspection truck which lowers crews beneath the bridge. The reason for delays is because the truck will be positioned on top of the bridge, which requires one lane to close to allow crews and equipment to safely complete their work.
Heather McDaniel from ITD said, "It's just part of our routine safety to go and make sure that everything is working as it should be."
During Thursday's inspection crews will look for anything from loose bolts to stress fractures or cracks on the bridge.
McDaniel added, "Safety is a huge priority and so many cars I mean there's thousands of cars that travel on these bridges every single day throughout the state and so it's our responsibility to make sure that those are completely safe."
If any deficiencies are found with the bridge they will be assessed by a team of engineers to determine whether it's still safe for the public to travel.
"Travelers are encouraged to use an alternate route and refer to the Idaho 511 system to be aware of work zone impacts," said ITD.
