SPOKANE, Wash. — Memorial Day weekend is underway already for many in the Inland Northwest. KREM 2 looked into what you can expect if you are going to road trip on this holiday weekend.
Gas prices are all over the place in the Inland Northwest. Washington state’s current average sits around $4.57 per gallon, however, Spokane has cheaper prices than that. An average gallon of gas here will set you back just about $4. If you head east into Idaho gas is a little cheaper. The average in Kootenai County is $3.75, but it isn’t hard to find stations that are less than that.
As for how busy the roads will be, AAA is projecting 43.8 million travelers will drive 50 miles or more from home over Memorial Day weekend.
With that in mind, we have some information from WSDOT about travel times. Over the next three days they project the hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. will have the most moderate to heavy traffic in the eastbound lanes.
On Friday, they project heavier traffic in westbound lanes from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m.
WSDOT has a real time map on their website that shows you what road conditions look like so you can check before hitting the road.
Wherever you’re heading this weekend, drive safe!
