A program to provide outdoor education to kids in Washington received $1.3 million in grants.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced funding for the "No Child Left Inside" campaign, which will serve more than 14,000 kids who might not otherwise get to explore the outdoors.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission awarded the grant money to the program. The goal is for underserved youth to spend one million hours outside, from hiking and kayaking to rock climbing.
"This is about investing in our kids and making sure they have equal access to the outdoors,” Inslee said. “We know that kids who spend time outdoors do better in school, are less stressed and get more exercise and social interaction."
