SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County officials announced that work on the Bigelow Gulch-Forker Road Urban Connector is set to resume Monday, April 1, 2024.

According to officials, work on the 20+ year, $81,750,000 project is expected to last from April through late fall this year. Crews will work on three stages of construction:

  • Rock blasting and final earthwork for the subgrade and drainage (local access traffic may experience delays during rock blasting)
  • Road surfacing: cement treatment base, crushed rock surface and hot mix asphalt.
  • Illumination system and guardrails installed, signing and striping.

On April 1, a stretch of Bigelow Gulch Road will be closed from Havana Street to Weile Road. Officials said only local traffic and emergency vehicles will be allowed access. Drivers will find a signed detour beginning in the west at Francis Avenue and Market Street continuing north into Mead and turning east before ending at Argonne Road and Bigelow Gulch Road.

Construction on the connector originally began back n 1997 to increase safety after officials noticed that daily traffic was increasing on Bigelow Gulch and Forker Roads.
