Two construction projects to impact Spokane drivers starting Thursday, August 22

Washington Street will be reduced to one lane, and Market Street will be closing lanes. Here is what you need to know.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Two construction will impact drivers in Spokane, one of which starts on Thursday, August 22.

Here is what you need to know.

Washington Street

The City of Spokane said Washington Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Maxwell Avenue and Boone Avenue because of a grind and overlay project.

Here is what the City of Spokane said you should expect:

  • Drivers will experience slowdowns when driving south on Washington Street between Maxwell Avenue and Boone Street and will be detoured at North River Drive due to the Washington Street Bridge repairs and construction.
  • Drivers using the detour from Division Street on North River Drive and traveling north on Washington Street will experience increased slowdowns.
  • The intersection of Boone Avenue and Washington Street will be managed with flaggers.
  • Drivers not accessing the area for specific needs are encouraged to use alternate arterial routes such as Division Street and Monroe Street

The City of Spokane said the project will start Thursday morning, August 22, and is expected to last through Friday, August 23.

Market Street

The City of Spokane also wants to remind drivers that northbound lanes of Market Street will be closed and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane because of a grind and overlay project.

The City said northbound lanes will be closed on Greene Street and Market Street between Mission Avenue and Wellesley Avenue, and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between Rockwell Avenue and Mission Avenue.

Here is what else the City wants you to know about:

  • Northbound Greene Street traffic will detour at Mission Avenue, west to Perry Street, north to Illinois Avenue, east to Crestline Street, north to Wellesley Avenue and east back to Market Street
  • Southbound Market Street traffic will be reduced to one lane between Rockwell Avenue and Mission Avenue

The City said this project will start on Monday, August 26. The City said the detour will be in place until Friday, September 6.
