ROCKFORD, Wash. — State Route 27 south of Rockford has been reduced to one lane due to a sinkhole that opened in the southbound lane on July 26.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says drivers who use SR 27 will need to plan extra travel time.
WSDOT says the hole was caused by a culvert that collapsed. On July 26, maintenance crews were able to patch the hole and stabilize the roadway for further assessment.
WSDOT determined on August 1 that the southbound lane of SR 27 would need to be closed at milepost 68.17, about one mile south of Rockford, until permanent repairs can be completed.
SR 27 will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic with flaggers guiding drivers. Starting at 12 p.m. on Friday, August 2, temporary traffic signals will be put in place.
As of Friday, August 9, SR 27 will be closed between Valley Chapel Road and Morris Road. WSDOT says a signed detour will be put in place on Jackson Road until repairs are finished.
WSDOT says the repairs are expected to last through the weekend of August 17.
