SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — On Monday, several construction projects will begin in downtown Spokane, affecting traffic in the city.
The city of Spokane is asking residents to stay patient, follow established detours and continue to visit and support businesses impacted by construction obstructions. Drivers are also asked to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and look for frequent detour changes before their traveling commute.
The projects are expected to be done by the end of April.
Here are the areas that will be impacted by the construction projects starting Monday, April 10:
Riverside Avenue Project Completion
Crews will begin the final part of the Riverside Avenue grind and overlay project between Stevens Street and Wall Street. The construction was delayed in 2022 because of the weather.
Here is what drivers can expect:
- Eastbound and westbound Riverside Avenue will be closed between Stevens Street and Wall Street.
- Northbound and southbound Howard Street will be closed between Riverside Avenue and Sprague Avenue.
- Work is expected to be completed by Saturday, April 22, depending on the weather conditions.
East Wellesley Avenue, between Haven Street and Market Street
Detours and lane reductions are in place for travelers in northeast Spokane. Work is being done to increase capacity and replace water infrastructure with WSDOT’s North Spokane Corridor improvements.
Thor-Freya Corridor
Crews are finishing routes between Sprague Avenue and Hartson Avenue on Thor Street and Freya Street, and replacing temporary markings with permanent striping. These are a continuation of the 2022 project.
What to Expect:
- Intermittent lane restrictions at different times in both directions.
- Work is expected to be completed by April 28.
- Starting in June, the intersections will be rebuilt at 2nd and 3rd Avenue on Thor Street and Freya Street.
North A Street between Rowan and Francis Avenues.
As part of the City’s 2023 Grind and Overlay list of projects, A Street will be closed in both directions between Rowan Francis Avenues in northwest Spokane.
Detours will be in place rerouting traffic to Alberta Street. The project is expected to be completed Wednesday, April 19.
North Monroe Street Permanent Striping
On North Monroe Street, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on North Monroe Street, between Summit Blvd. and Boone Avenue.
According to the city, the final start date will depend on the weather. The installation has been delayed and is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 17.
This work will install permanent striping to the new surface as part of the 2022 grind and overlay project. Due to the weather, temporary striping was used through the winter.
Current obstruction information is available on Spokane City’s construction website.
