One killed in Highway 231 crash in Stevens County

Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash, and it is not known when the road will reopen

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — One person died in a car crash on Highway 231 in Stevens County Thursday afternoon.

According to Washington State Patrol (WSP), they are investigating a deadly crash that happened at around 3:30 p.m. at Highway 231 at Reservation Road which is four miles south of Springdale.

WSP said a driver was heading south on Highway 231 at Reservation Road when it crossed the centerline and hit another card heading north.

WSP said 76-year-old Gary Grantham was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two other people injured and were taken to the hospital.

WSP said everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts, and WSP does not know if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

WSP also said the entire road was blocked and is now open.

WSP said Stevens County Fire and Aid were at the scene and WSDOT helped with traffic control.
