Work on 13th and Freya will continue after crews find two more water main breaks

The city of Spokane Streets Department says there is no estimated completion time at this point.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Detours will remain in place through the weekend as crews work to fix several water main breaks on the South Hill.

According to the city of Spokane, two more water main breaks were discovered as crews were working to repair the break that happened Wednesday. As a result, the detours on Freya from 11th to 13th streets will remain in place until further notice.

Crews will be available to work through the weekend to replace pipe sections, according to the city. Crews will also have to remove more pavement in order to finish the job.

Once crews are done with the pipe work, the entire area of pavement will need to be assessed for repairs. The city streets department said they will make the repairs as quickly as possible but there is currently no estimated timeline. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and follow detours while crews continue to work.

No injuries were reported from the incident. Spokane Public Works says water restored by the end of Wednesday.

The initial main break caused significant traffic in the area. Spokane Public Works says detours were in place and traffic was temporarily rerouted to Thor and Hartson.
